Following are the tips that help to become a power profile on LinkedIn:

1.      Optimize Your Profile

What makes LinkedIn so influential that both individuals and companies have a different destiny. As individuals, it’s our profile. For companies, it’s the company page. As individual members, make the most effective use of your profile is the place to start. Be assured to have an original headshot photo, preferably smiling. Use keywords in your headline that represents your professional specialty. Complete the summary in an easy to read practice. Be sure to include your achievements.

2.      Write your own content

The number of views your profile received rise significantly when you start writing blogs on LinkedIn. Stay connected every day like daily post blogs, quotes, videos, contents relating anything like useful information, motivating articles, etc.

3.      Share and curate content

Be an active user of the ‘Share an update’ feature. Here are some tips:

  •    Be selective – Only share content that resonates with you and that is relevance for your connections and followers.
  • Less is more – Don’t deluge people with content, post maximum of five updates per day.
  • Timing can be everything – Create a schedule as to when you post an update, and stay connected with your posts like early mornings, lunch and early evenings to generate more success. When considering when to post please remember that LinkedIn is a global platform and your connections are likely to be spread across the world.
  • Add your point of view – It shows your personality, tends to provoke more interest and consideration, and helps you to follow your updates with what you do.

4.      Mobilize

LinkedIn is accessible for mobile users on smartphones and tablet devices. The mobile experience is nearly indistinguishable to desktop practice. You can do just about everything you do on a LinkedIn desktop on the mobile versions. The mobile version is constantly updated too, so the experience just keeps getting better.

5.      Engage With Influencers

The LinkedIn Professional Publishing Platform has been accessible only to an exclusive list of almost 500 business influencers who advertise unique content there. You can subscribe to their content. For example, you can subscribe to view articles composed by people like Bill Gates, Arianna Huffington, Jack Welch, Richard Branson, Guy Kawasaki, Joe Pulizzi, Jeff Weiner,  Tom Peters, ETC. It’s tempting to list all 500 influencers but I won’t. You get the idea. Once you understand an article from any of these influencers, you can leave a comment. Influencer posts average more than 80 comments each.

6.      Find Your Voice

People see your activity on LinkedIn and form opinions about you by what you share, what you say, where you say it and how you say it. Think about how you want people to think of you as a professional. LinkedIn is not a friendly networking platform to share your cat or dog pictures. Be authentic, and view the brand you are building for yourself. Be consistent with your brand.

7.      Become a Groupie

LinkedIn presents the opportunity to create a group. If you build a group, be assured to be committed to it. An influential group has personalities who help each other. Of course, you don’t have to create a group. You can join up to 50 groups. Most of us don’t have time to engage with 50 groups. Select the groups that are time well spent for you and become an important member of those groups.

8.      Get Personal

A pet peeve of mine is getting an invitation to connect to someone I’ve never met before without them personalizing the invitation. LinkedIn provides the ability to customize the invitation. Don’t be lazy. Personalize the invitation 100% of the time.

9.      Become an Inbound Marketer

If you’re serious about using LinkedIn to grow your business, whatever that indicates to you, you are an inbound marketer. Buzzword aside, the fundamental aim of using LinkedIn is for opportunities to come to you in some way. An inbound marketer generates value and interest through content and engagement to attract opportunities. This is the purest form of inbound marketing.

10.  Pay it Forward

Last but not least, assume that the best results on LinkedIn don’t come from being aggressive. I’ve seen too many people who treat LinkedIn like a singles bar, hitting on people who represent prospects. That approach won’t go far. You might even get reported as a spammer. Rather, be helpful, thoughtful and a resource to people in your network. When sharing content, use the 4-1-1 rule. Share 4 pieces of content you curate from sources like Pulse. Then share 1 piece of content from someone in your network giving them credit for the original content. Share 1 piece of content that you produced. When sharing your content, comment on the article in a useful manner.
